Why Vision Therapy For Children Could Revolutionize Education

I don’t get it. Where’s the public outcry? Where are the crowds massing on the Capitol Mall, crying out “Vision Therapy for Children! Vision Therapy for All Children!”
It seems rather simple to me, after all. If one in four children has a vision problem that affects their ability to learn, then isn’t this a rather glaring issue? Like, almost a health emergency?
Do you think we’d take action if one in four children had a sore throat that affected their ability to learn? Heck yeah, we’d be driving cough drops by the crates up to the school loading docks.
Do you think we’d take action if one in four children had poor footwear that affected their ability to learn? I guarantee that every candidate running for office would be championing a nice fitting set of Nikes for every school-child, and a highly qualified shoe clerk in every classroom.
So, why aren’t we taking action on this national epidemic – yes, epidemic – that seems to be plaguing our schools?
I’m not suggesting that there aren’t other issues with our schools, issues that need to be addressed and addressed soon. But why not start with the low hanging fruit? Why not tackle problems that can be addressed immediately, and most importantly, are “quantifiable?”
Is it because vision therapy often is not covered by insurance?
Is it because some medical practitioners question its effectiveness, despite all the medical research and the thousands of success stories?
Or is it because enough people simply aren’t aware of what it is?
I’m hoping it’s C. That means there’s hope that this one solution will revolutionize education. It’s a solution that is immediately attainable, and in our nation’s best interest to pursue.
Even more, I’m hoping all it will take is one common sense blog post to spread the word and incite the masses.
Could this be that post? The answer, my friend, is in your hands. Click that share button, and let’s revolutionize education, one vision therapy patient at a time.
